Another significant investment in justice – new offices for the State Attorney

Minister for Justice, Equality and Governance Edward Zammit Lewis inaugurated the new State Attorney’s office. They did so in the presence of Attorney General Chris Soler who was appointed on Monday, October 17, 2020.

Also present was Permanent Secretary Johan Galea. Minister Zammit Lewis emphasized the importance of this building which has enabled the State Attorney to operate better. The State Attorney’s Office became operational in December 2019 when the Attorney General’s Office was split in two and the role of Attorney General ceased to be a senior government adviser and Government Attorney. – this role was given to the State Attorney. The State Attorney’s Office is responsible for acting in the public interest and safeguarding the legality of any State action. In addition, this office performs other duties and functions that are conferred by the Constitution or by any other law. Minister Zammit Lewis reminded that every legal officer working in the State Attorney’s Office is obliged to follow a Code of Ethics for Lawyers and Legal Procurators that is specific to them.
