Government following health authorities advice on opening schools

The Government is following the advice of the health authorities when it will open the schools on Thursday morning as planned.

At a meeting between the Government and the Teachers 'Union in Castile, the teachers' representatives heard the Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci, tell them that the education and training and health authorities are working hand in hand to open schools, contrary to what the same union said.

This means that the Teachers' Union is going against the advice of the health authorities, which has also been publicly stated.

Professor Gauci also recalled how as a result of the cooperation, Malta was among the main countries where there was no need to close schools.

For the Government, the education of our children is a priority as is public health, and all decisions are taken in the interest of our children. The decision of the MUT to ignore the advice of the health authorities is considered illegitimate and therefore when schools are opened tomorrow, teachers are expected to report to schools normally and honour their work obligations.
