A policy that is leading to less poverty and social exclusion

Minister for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children's Rights Michael Falzon presents the Implementation and Evaluation Report of the National Strategy Policy for Poverty Reduction and Social Inclusion covering the period from 2017 to 2019.

In the last six years, 93 policy actions and 469 social measures have been implemented to address and improve the social situation of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

At the same time, household disposable income increased by € 5,000. Since 2013, 5,000 people have also been at risk of poverty or social exclusion, although there has been an increase in population. This has increased by 76,000 people who are not at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

These were among the observations that emerged from the report looking at the years 2013-19; that of the National Strategic Policy for Poverty Reduction and Social Exclusion. This policy was launched by this government in 2014, and aims to look at progress and change in this sector by 2024.

At a news conference, the Minister for Solidarity and Social Justice, Family and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon said that in these years of Labor administration, thousands of jobs have been created, halved those dependent on social benefits and addressed discriminatory sectors, while giving access to better quality of health.
