Sliema go top

Sliema Wanderers have gone top of the premiership with a 4-1 win over Lija.
The win puts them one point ahead of Gzira United and two ahead of Hibernians.

Lija went ahead inside the opening quarter hour when Miguel Perez Jimenez fired home from a corner.

It took Sliema till the end of the first half to draw level, Riki Kakinuma’s flying header beating Lija keeper Luke Bonnici.

After the break Gilmar da Silva Ribeiro made it 2-1 for Sliema, Jean Paul Farrugia added a third from the penalty spot and Juri Cisotti wrapped up a comprehensive win for Sliema to send them top.
