Launch of photography competition to promote sustainable development

As part of the European Sustainable Development Week 2020, the Ministry within the Office of the Prime Minister, together with the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malta, is launching  a photography competition titled ‘Inspire Change Through Creativity: Sustainable Alternatives for Growth’.

In his comments, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for Sustainable
Development Carmelo Abela encouraged photographers to participate in this competition with the aim of raising further awareness on sustainability through their creativity. He stressed the important role that visual creativity plays in conveying the message of needing a holistic approach for the protection of the planet, humanity and the environment around us.

He added that through this competition, the ministry is looking for photographers who want to generate positive change in favour of sustainable development – to be achieved by using their photography to showcase sustainable alternatives for the socio-economic and environmental development of the Maltese Islands. Minister Abela said that photographers, whether amateur or professional, can use this opportunity to inspire themselves from the Sustainable Development Goals, goals which Malta must reach by 2030.

He thanked the Directorate of Sustainable Development for another positive initiative in favour of sustainability in our country, by organising a series of events as part of the
European Sustainable Development Week.
