Six funded cat shelters from the Local Council Care Project 2019 scheme inaugurated

Għajnsielem Local Council inaugurated six cat shelters that will be spread around different sites in the locality,  Ta ‘Passi,  the Gudja playingfield, Triq Baħarara, Triq Xprunara, Fuq the Eye and in the vicinity of the Tower.

This project costs € 6,287, for which the Council was awarded the sum of € 5,000 from the LC Care Project 2019A. This scheme was launched by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo. This grant also includes the process of cat neutering as well as the distribution of food to cat feeders. The cat café project is aimed at serving as a pilot project and will eventually grow and spread to other locations around Malta and Gozo.

Minister Anton Refalo referred to the meeting held a few weeks ago, which dealt with funds that the Directorate for Animal Welfare has launched to consider aid and incentives to the local councils come up with new ideas and positive projects in the interest of animals, particularly the streams in the respective locality.

The LC Care project aims to support local councils in caring for animal care in projects that have the potential to improve animal welfare. Among the priority areas for grants in 2020 are cat cafes.

This project aims to assist in the progress of good animal management practices, strengthen the animal welfare treatment network, the quality of care and the rehabilitation of animal welfare. community services. Another aim is to provide improved animal facilities.

The project goes further and aims to improve the provision of community education. Similar programs, including the development of necessary animal welfare and care materials, will be made more accessible. It also wants to see the relationship between the directorate, residents and local councils improved.
