Following a statement issued by the National Statistics Office on Monday stating that the number of people registering had decreased between May and June, it was confirmed that even with the European Union’s Labor Force Survey, it was there is a decline in unemployment.
In fact, while there was a decrease of 139 people registering between May and June, with the broader Labor Force Survey, the decrease in the number of jobseekers reaches 181 people.
Thus, according to the National Statistics Office, the unemployment rate in June fell to 4.2%, from 4.3% the previous month. Since 2000 on average, the unemployment rate has been 6%, or almost one and a half times the current rate.
The worst rate ever recorded was 8.5% in August 2003. In the pre-2013 legislature, the highest rate was 7.3% in December 2009. This means that the rate currently observed is almost half of what was recorded during the 2009 recession.
The Government is committed to continuing to take measures to reduce unemployment and regenerate the economy.
