Prime Minister Joseph Muscat paid tribute to Malta’s second Prime Minister Francesco Buhagiar on the occasion of his 140th anniversary of his birth.
Dr Buhagiar was elected to the Legislative Assembly in the 1921 and 1924 elections in the interests of the Unione Popolare Maltese.
On 13 October 1922 he was appointed Minister of Justice and a year later he succeeded Senator Joseph Howard as Prime Minister.
Francesco Buhagiar was highly respected by his political opponents and his career on the bench earned him a reputation as a distinguished jurist.
