According to the latest official figures August was a record month for Malta International Airport with the highest number of passenger movement ever recorded.
The National Statistics Office has confirmed the success registered within the tourism sector, month after month. In July, roughly 230,000 tourists visited Malta – amounting to 10.7 per cent growth when compared with the same month of the previous year.
Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis confirmed that July registered the highest tourist levels from 2010 till today.
“This is the first time we have surpassed the one million threshold in tourist arrivals for the first seven months of the year, which has translated into an increase of ten per cent over and above what was registered between January and July2015,” he said.
Malta International Airport announced that in August, roughly 600,000 passengers passed through, an increase of 2.3 per cent above figures for August 2015.
It is expected that by the end of the year, MIA will receive almost five million passengers – an increase of 7.6 per cent than in 2015.
