A fire deep inside a tunnel beneath the Kappara distribution centre damaged one of the inter-connector cables, cutting power supplies.
Enemalta said that although power was quickly restored to most of the affected areas, smoke in the tunnel meant that engineers together with Civil Protection personnel had to take extreme care while carrying out repairs.
Minister Konrad Mizzi who visited the area shortly after the power fault occured, said,“We called the Civil Protection Department to intervene as smoke could be seen emerging from the tunnel and electricity was disconnected due to the cables. The cable inter-connector was also switched off.”
