Nigel Vella has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC). Mr Vella’s appointment will commence in the beginning of April, replacing Pierre Fenech, who will relinquish this post to focus on his role of Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS), as announced a few weeks ago.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg thanked Mr Fenech for his service to the MCC in recent years, as he steered the Centre towards several significant achievements. Dr Borg also congratulated Mr Vella for his appointment. He encouraged the MCC to continue providing its services and expertise in the organisation of top-tier conferences and cultural initiatives, as Malta continues to diversify its cultural tourism offering, while strengthening its regional standing in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, which is attracting many rewarding opportunities to the Maltese Islands.
In recent years, Nigel Vella worked as a consultant within the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security and Employment. He also worked within the Office of the Prime Minister, where he served as a Deputy Head of Communications as well as a Government Spokesperson.
Mr Vella also sits on the Board of Governors of the Malta Digital Innovation Authority. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in History from the University of Malta in 2012.
