The exhibition ‘Moonfall: The Rare Lunar Legacy’ launched at Esplora

At the Interactive Science Centre, Esplora, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti officially launched the temporary exhibition Moonfall: The Rare Lunar Legacy . The exhibition, which will open to the public on 7 February 2025, will offer a unique opportunity for the public to explore a rare lunar meteorite while better understanding the scientific wonders of the Moon.

In the exhibition Moonfall: The Rare Lunar Legacy , visitors will be able to see a fragment of the Moon itself and experience one of the largest lunar meteorites in existence, a 2006g portion of Tisserlitine 001. Visitors will therefore have the chance to explore the scientific connection that exists between the Earth and the Moon.

Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti explained the role that such exhibitions play in promoting science and innovation in Malta. “Through this exhibition, Esplora continues to be at the forefront of spreading science education in Malta. This exhibition is an excellent example of how we can engage the public with cutting-edge scientific experiences. Through these rare lunar meteorites, this exhibition also aims to inspire young people to explore careers in science and technology.”

For his part, Olaf McKay, Head of Esplora, stressed the importance of this exhibition which will arouse curiosity while broadening knowledge about space. “Esplora has a clear commitment to inspiring and engaging the next generations of scientists, innovators, and explorers. Moonfall is a unique opportunity to see a piece of the Moon up close, as these lunar meteorites are not normally accessible to the public.”

This exhibition will be bringing to the public these lunar meteorites that fell to Earth as a result of impacts caused by asteroids and comets. Since there are only 360 known samples of this type of meteorite in the world, one should take this opportunity to experience one of the most sought-after scientific treasures in the world.

The Exhibition will be open to the public from February 7, 2025 to March 4, 2025. Admission to Moonfall: A Rare Lunar Legacy is included in the regular price of admission to Esplora.
