The Minister for Health and Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela launched the second National Strategy for the protection of Sexual Health for public consultation.
The Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained how the second National Sexual Health Strategy 2025-2030, is an important step in the continuous efforts that our country is making to promote health and sexual and reproductive rights in the Maltese population for the next six years.
Minister Abela said how the demographics of our population, behavior, health needs, have all changed, as well as the opportunities we have in terms of advances in diagnostics, prevention and -treatment. “This also means that we must be proactive in preparing for the current and future challenges in this area,” added the Minister.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela said how a number of social and legislative changes have taken place in Malta, which have shaped the landscape of sexual and reproductive health in Malta. He pointed out how they brought to the fore the importance of addressing the sexual health needs and rights of all members of our population, with particular emphasis on specific groups.
“Through the contribution of many, we want to look to approach sexual health and well-being from a positive perspective, by focusing on the current needs, social norms, and challenges faced by key populations in accessing -sexual health services. Our goal is to ensure that all individuals have a safe sexual life, free from coercion, discrimination, and violence,” concluded Minister Abela.
