The Parliament of Malta is currently hosting the Commonwealth Association of Public Accounts Committees (CAPAC) Conference, marking a decade since its establishment in 2015. Eighteen jurisdictions have joined this meeting virtually as well as in person.
Addressing the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members and staff from around the globe, Speaker Anġlu Farrugia reflected on Malta’s instrumental role in CAPAC’s inception and ongoing development, emphasising Malta’s commitment to fostering collaboration within the Commonwealth, particularly through its leadership in creating small branches within the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) to amplify the voices of smaller jurisdictions.
In his address, Speaker Farrugia proposed formalizing CAPAC as a dedicated branch of the CPA to strengthen its impact and integrate it into the CPA’s official events calendar. Highlighting the hybrid format of the conference as a model for inclusivity, the Speaker urged attendees to consider new strategies for CAPAC’s growth and success, ensuring it continues to champion transparency and accountability across the Commonwealth.
