Agreement signed that will continue to strengthen research in the aquaculture sector in Malta

Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said was present in Corsica for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Aquatic Resources Malta Agency (ARM) and the French Center of Research of Stella Mare University.

The Stella Mare University Center is a modern and very advanced center that has a widespread profile of research and conservation projects on a number of species such as sea urchins, mullets, swordfish, oysters, the lobsters which are of interest to the Aquatic Resources Malta Agency as well as to Malta.

Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said said that this agreement will continue to build on the work being done by the ARM Agency in the aquaculture sector in our country. She continued that this agreement is one of many that this Agency has with other countries and thus it is continuing to increase its knowledge in the research that is carried out.

“During this visit we were able to see the research carried out by this Center in what concerns the growth of sea urchins so that through this we can add to the research that is already being carried out in our country through of the ARM Agency. I am confident that with similar collaborations, with the French University Center, they will serve as good for the employees as well as for the sector and for our country,” stated the parliamentary secretary.

The CEO of the Agency Frank Fabri explained how the agency has been in discussions with the Stella Mare Center since May where a visit with a number of meetings was even held in July in Corsica. He spoke about how this agreement will offer training and development opportunities for the Maltese Agency’s aquaculture employees as well as joint research with the French University.

This agreement was signed by the Chief Executive of the Maltese Agency Frank Fabri and the President of the University of Corsica Dominique Federici.
