The President Myriam Spiteri Debono has returned from London, where in the past few days she saw closely the fruits of the work of the Malta Community Chest Fund and other entities so that the Maltese who need treatment outside our country are assisted with the best possible way.
During this visit, the President of Malta was accompanied by officers of the Malta Community Chest Fund, who assist patients in various ways from the beginning of their diagnosis until they are in London, during the course throughout their treatment, and also upon returning to Malta after treatment.
The President’s visit to London began with a meeting with the Maltese patients hospitalized in Sutton, as well as with their relatives.
The President also had visits to Great Ormond Street Hospital and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. Also during these visits, President Spiteri Debono met with the management of the hospitals, and with several professionals including the leading Maltese surgeon specialized in neuro-oncology, Mr Kristian Aquilina.
The President saw closely the work done by other entities so that the Maltese in London receive the best services. The President’s commitments also included a visit to the Puttinu Cares site where new apartments are being built near the hospital where Maltese patients receive treatment.
President Spiteri Debono also visited the High Commission of Malta where she met the Maltese High Commissioner Emanuel Mallia, and the workers. The work to strengthen the cultural and commercial relations between Malta and the United Kingdom was explained in detail.
The President’s visit came to an end with a networking event organized by the Malta Tourism Authority, which served as a promotion of Malta’s history and gastronomic heritage. In her intervention, the President acknowledged the continuous work of various authorities that work to promote the Maltese tourist product outside our country.
