New MRI machine inaugurated in Gozo

The Minister for Health and Active Aging, Jo Etienne Abela, inaugurated the new MRI machine at the Gozo General Hospital, with an investment of €3 million.

The Minister Jo Etienne Abela said how through this investment, the installation of the new 3.0 Tesla MRI machine took place at the Gozo General Hospital, the most modern MRI machine that exists in our country. He said how from March until today, through the portable MRI machine, approximately 2,700 MRIs were performed, with approximately 70% being on Gozitan patients.

Minister Abela explained how through non-stop work in the last 6 months, the necessary extension was made to build the place for this machine. He stressed how this machine will improve the radiology service offered in Gozo as this machine is one of the latest technology that allows detailed diagnosis in various parts of the body as well as allowing specialized MRIs, including MRIs of -brain, heart, prostate, spinal cord, liver, and pancreas. This machine will also help to catch tumors at an advanced stage.

Minister Abela thanked the multidisciplinary team that will be running this service and said how now the Gozo people will be able to be served in Gozo itself without the need to go down to Malta to do this medical test.
