Coach Davide Mazzotta and Joseph Mbong confident ahead of decisive Moldova clash

In the lead-up to Malta’s crucial match against Moldova, interim coach Davide Mazzotta and Malta player Joseph Mbong addressed the media, discussing the team’s mindset and preparation. As Malta seeks a much-needed victory, Mazzotta and Mbong conveyed a message of confidence, belief, and respect towards their opponents, while acknowledging the significance of the upcoming fixture.

Interim coach Davide Mazzotta acknowledged the challenge ahead, emphasizing the importance of taking each game seriously. “It will be a difficult game, just like all the others,” Mazzotta said. He praised his squad’s potential and experience, pointing out that he has known many of the players for years, giving him the confidence to take on the role once again.

“It’s why I accepted to come back to the national team. It’s an honour for me to be the coach of Malta, a team where I have left my heart,” Mazzotta added, reflecting on his deep connection with the squad. Despite the difficulties, he believes Malta is capable of competing with Moldova if the team performs with belief and courage.

Mazzotta revealed that the team has implemented some new tactical approaches, acknowledging the ever-evolving nature of football. While the respect for Moldova is clear, he made it evident that Malta will not back down, approaching the game with both humility and confidence.

“We will face Moldova with respect and belief in ourselves,” Mazzotta stated. He highlighted the importance of self-confidence, which he believes is key to achieving a positive result. Mazzotta also touched on the emotional state of the players, admitting that some had felt demoralized following previous matches. However, he remains optimistic, having witnessed their positive attitude and determination during training.

“I’ve spoken to each player, and though they were a bit down, I believe if they bring the confidence they showed in training onto the pitch, we can achieve a positive outcome,” Mazzotta added.

Joseph Mbong, a key figure for Malta, also spoke about the mood in the camp. He acknowledged that the team is feeling the weight of the match, given its decisive nature. “There will always be pressure, especially since this is a decisive game for Malta,” Mbong said. However, he expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, both mentally and physically.

“We know and feel that the team is very prepared, and all of us are ready to do our utmost to play well and get the much-needed three points,” Mbong explained. His comments reflect a focused and determined team, fully aware of the stakes but eager to rise to the occasion.

Mbong also stressed that while the team respects Moldova, they are approaching the game with confidence, but not arrogance. “We respect our opponents and are confident in facing them, but not arrogant,” he said, emphasizing the importance of balancing self-assurance with humility.
