More irregular immigrants are relocated to other countries

So far during this year 175 irregular immigrants were returned or relocated This means that from the beginning of the year 2024, while 115 irregular immigrants were returned to their country of origin, another 60 were relocated to other countries of the European Union.
With the efforts of the Government, in the fight against irregular immigration, they are translating into positive results, with the total of 175 irregular immigrants who were returned or relocated in the first nine months of the year, well surpassing the a number of 103 irregular immigrants who entered Malta in the same period. The relocation work, through the Voluntary Mechanism of Solidarity, was carried out by the Ministry for the Interior, Security and Labor in collaboration with the International Organization of Immigration (IOM) and the Agency of European Union for Asylum (EUAA), a relocation that joins a series of relocations made by this government in recent years.
The Ministry for the Interior, Security and Work claims that relocation is the most efficient way of how the European Union and the Member States can reduce the challenges that come with immigration irregular, in particular for border countries, such as Malta.
Therefore, while those immigrants who deserve protection are helped and given all their rights according to the law, those immigrants who do not deserve protection, or who are living in Malta irregularly, are relocated or returned to their country of origin. The work of the Immigration Police, the Detention Services Agency and other Departments within the Ministry for the Interior, Security and Work will continue to be strengthened in the operation of a fair immigration policy. The relocation is co-financed by the European Union, under the Asylum, Immigration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
