At the inauguration of the first tuna cooperative between Malta and China, Prime Minister Robert Abela noted the sense of innovation in the aquaculture sector so that the Maltese business thrives in large markets, including China.
Faced with the reality that our country continues to export quality tuna, the Prime Minister stressed the highest standards. In fact, the first shipment of tuna grown in Malta to China was sent in September this year. This is even after a great deal of work to ensure that the Maltese product complies with European and international standards together with established environmental rules.
Dr Abela also noted how a similar export process was also launched in relation to other products related to fish. This ties in perfectly with the Government’s commitment to promote a circular economy and reduce food waste as much as possible. Here in fact Dr Abela mentioned the importance of a sustainable operation which the Government fully supports.
Prime Minister Abela wished that this partnership between our country and China, represented by Malta Fish Farming and the Shandong Marine group, would be a success. The Prime Minister explained how this partnership is an example of how with innovation we can increase trade and cooperation between different countries. “This cooperation platform symbolizes not only economic collaboration but the strength of the ties between Malta and China. Together we look forward to a future full of opportunities, prosperity and more collaborations,” concluded the Prime Minister.
