President of Malta addresses the young people of the Malta Model United Nations Society

President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono hosted at the Sant’Anton Palace a group of young people from the Malta Model United Nations Society (MaltMUN) for a networking event between Maltese and foreign delegates.

MaltMUN is a non-governmental organization run by young people for young people and aims to foster excellence in young people for what is debate, negotiation and public speaking.

The activity was held as part of the annual conference that brings together young people for a discussion on matters of global importance, and during which they come up with lasting ideas and initiatives to address these problems and challenges.

When she was addressing the young people, President Spiteri Debono referred to the theme of this year’s conference, which focused on the resolution of challenges to achieve global stability, and praised their determination in favor of solutions for -common good.

“With your participation in this conference, you are showing that today’s young people do not lack the drive and determination to act on international challenges, and are actively looking for solutions,” noted the President of Malta.

Emphasizing the need for long-term and sustainable solutions, the President of Malta spoke about the importance of diplomacy, to address global challenges through dialogue, negotiation and compromise. .

The President of Malta pointed out that Malta, both in the Security Council of the United Nations, as well as in the leadership of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, is promoting dialogue and initiatives to promote the peace, security and global progress.

In light of this, the President reminded the young people that a small country like Malta is bringing about change on an international level, and therefore praised initiatives such as MaltMUN “which help young people who aspire to a diplomatic career and in leadership gain knowledge and expertise to in the future you can lead them to solve problems in a sustainable way”.
