Preliminary Market Consultation launched to turn the Great Siege Square in Rabat, Gozo into a parking lot and green space

The Regional Development Authority of Gozo is launching a Preliminary Market Consultation in order to determine the feasibility in relation to the potential development of a car park on several levels complemented by an open green space. This project is proposed to take place in Pjazza l’Assediu l’Kbir in Rabat.

The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri claimed that this is another proposal that will be studied so that eventually those interested can submit their offer to build and operate this facility in the heart of Victoria City.

“We believe that this area, spread over an area of 3,100 square meters, has the potential to serve a much greater function than that of today where it is currently being used as a parking lot. Through the proposal of parking on several levels and a green space above, we believe that we are maximizing this site while addressing many challenges present in the City of Victoria,” said Minister Clint Camilleri.

He also recalled how this initiative is not an isolated one but part of a chain of other projects intended to address the traffic challenge in Gozo. “We are working on Triq ta Wara s-Sur which is almost finished and through which, an existing bottleneck will be eliminated. We will also be building Gòrġ Pisani Street which should relieve a lot of the traffic from the center of Rabat, as well as we are working on the Victoria Park proposal where apart from creating a green space, we will be creating another car park under the -land,” said the minister.

Mario Borġ, Chief Executive of the Regional Authority for the Development of Gozo, said that the Authority is working on this project as it is part of the Regional Strategy for Gozo. Mr. Borġ reminded that this process closes on 16 September 2024.
