A garden in the heart of Ħal Lija will formally pass to the Local Council of Ħal Lija so that it will be under the responsibility of the same Council.
This was announced by the Minister for Lands and Implementation of the Electoral Program Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli during a visit to the site, during which the devolution agreement was signed between the -Lands Authority and the Local Council of Lija.
Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi showed his satisfaction for this agreement, as the Land Authority is handing over another open space. “We all know how limited open spaces of this size are in the smallness of our country and therefore I believe that the Lands Authority is doing a good job in order to identify more public spaces and buildings that can be utilized by the Councils Respective premises,” said the Minister.
Through this agreement, the garden will now be better maintained and will be used more for various activities for the residents. “As a Government we are committed to continuing to improve the quality of people’s lives and therefore a space like this will be a great contribution to this locality,” concluded Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi.
Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that through this devolution, the Government will be handing over a garden of almost four thousand square meters to the Local Council of Lija.
“As a Government we are continuing to see that we give the public more open spaces that are well maintained, and so this is the main purpose of this garden passing into the hands of the Local Council, as the Council knows well the locality needs. Apart from the garden, the Council will have in its hands the outdoor gym and even the swings,” concluded the Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.
The Mayor of Lija Anthony Dalli said that through this agreement, the Local Council will continue to take care of this garden so that the people of Lija and those who visit this locality have a central place of recreation.
