At Castille, Prime Minister Robert Abela welcomed the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

With Malta and Ghana partners in the Commonwealth, the Maltese Prime Minister spoke about how the Commonwealth must continue to facilitate initiatives that create wealth among the peoples of different countries in this union, not with less through initiatives aimed at small states, including also on climate change.

Both sides pointed to the Center of Excellence for Small States within the Commonwealth. A center that was set up after the last CHOGM Summit that was held in our country and that can continue to facilitate good practices including with another international initiative from Malta, which involves an index of resilience and vulnerability to climate change. This index is able to shed light and help countries take important measures to meet climate change.

In the meeting in Castile both sides also talked about the relations between the European Union and Africa. The issue of immigration was mentioned, with the need for this issue to continue to be comprehensively addressed from its roots.
