PM to re-nominate Chris Fearne for European Commissioner if court clears him

Prime Minister Robert Abela

Prime Minister Robert Abela said today that he will re-nominate Chris Fearne for European Commissioner if the courts do not indict him.

Chris Fearne had earlier this year been nominated for the position but withdrew his nomination after criminal charges were laid against him in connection with the Vitals hospital deal.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday following the inauguration of the ship to shore power supply project in Grand Harbour, the Prime Minister said it was the most probable possibility that he would re-nominate Chris Fearne for European Commissioner.

That decision has to be made by July 24th, the deadline to nominate Malta’s EU commissioner.
