Security in the Mediterranean was discussed during talks in Benghazi that the Minister for the Interior, Security and Work Byron Camilleri had with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
Both sides agreed that there would be more cooperation between them primarily in training, education and in the fight against human trafficking and criminal activities.
“No one should have the slightest doubt that the situation and the security situation in Libya have a direct impact both on the center of the Mediterranean and even on the southern part of Europe. The collaboration between Libya and neighboring countries such as Malta translates into the protection of Maltese and Libyan citizens and their interests in both countries,” stressed Minister Camilleri.
In the talks between the two sides, Minister Camilleri was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign, European and Trade Affairs Christopher Cutajar, the Cabinet Secretary Ryan Spagnol, the Brigadier of the Armed Forces of Malta Clinton O’ Neill, the Director General of Civil Protection Peter Paul Coleiro, and the Ambassador for Immigration Malcolm Cutajar, among others.
