The 9th Conference of Ministers for Education from Europe and Asia known as ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASEMME9) is meeting in our country in these two days, with a varied discussion on various topics related to central theme ‘Leaving no one behind’.
The conference was started with a message and a speech from the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima who stressed both that this is a conference that will give an opportunity for reflection and for there to be an exchange of ideas on how the educational sector can serve as an agent for change, for innovation and for integration to ensure that no one is left aside in a sector that is the basis of world societies.
“By collaborating together and with a common goal, we can design a future for our societies based on quality learning that is accessible to all. This can ensure that education can serve as a tool for mutual cooperation, prosperity and stability between our peoples”, said Minister Grima.
He emphasized that everyone should focus on ensuring that all children, young people and adults have the opportunity to acquire the skills and attitudes necessary to be active citizens and to succeed first of all on a personal level, but also at work and in society.
“Our collective commitments to adequately address the sustainable development goals need to prioritize the resilience of education to the challenges that arise, while focusing on flexible approaches that enable equitable access to education, from education at an early age until adult learning,” stressed Minister Grima.
It is in this context that this conference has worldwide importance, because it is focusing on supporting the relevance of education for this sector to work to provide opportunities for young people and to provide opportunities for innovation and for -growth, development of human capital; objectives that can be achieved by strengthening collaboration between all countries.
Minister Clifton Grima thanked the ministers for the present education as well as all the delegations that are participating and collaborating for the objectives of the conference. He also thanked the ASEM Education Secretariat and the Maltese Authority for Advanced and Higher Education for organizing the conference in our country.
“We are gathered here because we all believe in renewing common values and continuing our work for a vision on which we all agree, that education can and should serve as a tool for the common good”, concluded Minister Grima.
