The Pharmacist of Your Choice Scheme (POYC) has been renewed for another six years as an agreement has been signed to extend this service between the Ministry of Health and the Chamber of Pharmacists and the Small and Medium Business Chamber.
The signing of the agreement, which was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne, will cover this service for over 150,000 patients in 224 pharmacies across Malta and Gozo.
The new agreement will extend the service provided by community pharmacies by offering, for the first time, the Medicines Use Review service, through which every patient who uses POYC scheme will have the opportunity to make a confidential appointment with the pharmacist of his choice where the medicines the patient is taking and the medical devices being used are discussed. This is to enable the pharmacist to assist the patient, especially if they have been taking a number of chronic and complex medicines for many years, in order to ensure that the treatment, as prescribed by the attending physician, is being taken. properly and in the manner prescribed.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the parties who took part in this agreement which will translate into better service for patients. He thanked the community pharmacists for their dedicated daily work.
The agreement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Joseph Chetcuti, the Chief Executive of CPSU Karl Farrugia, the President of the Chamber of Pharmacists Mary Ann Sant Fournier, and the President of the Chamber of -Small and Medium Business of the Pharmacies section Mario Debono.
