Prime Minister Joseph Muscat continued paying tribute to former Prime Ministers of Malta, the latest being Dr Enrico Mizzi on the 131st anniversary of his birth.
Mizzi was first elected to the Council of Government in 1915 as a member of the Cimitato Patriottico.
In 1917 he was arrested and court martialled on charges of sedition for writings against the British but saw his prison sentence commuted by Governor Metheun.
In 1921 he formed the PDN and eventually formed a coalition government with the UPM in 1924 until the two parties merged to form the Partito Nazionalista.
In 1940 he was arrested, interned and eventually deported to Uganda. After his repatriation in 1945 he resumed his political career and became Prime Minister in 1950 only to die three months later.
